City of Naples Says Door Remains Open for Cars on 5th as Relocation Plans Emerge

Officials invite revised application by Aug. 5 for possible City Council review later this summer.

NAPLES, Fla. — The City of Naples says it remains willing to work with organizers of the annual Cars on 5th event despite recent announcements that the show will relocate outside the city for 2027.

In an official statement released this week, city officials said they learned on July 16 through a media release that event organizers had decided not to continue with the City's revised permit application process and instead announced plans to move the event to a new location.

The statement comes after weeks of discussion regarding the event's permitting process and public safety considerations.

City officials emphasized that their position throughout the review process has remained focused on balancing the continuation of the popular event with the safety of residents, visitors, businesses and emergency responders.

"The City's goal has remained unchanged: preserve this popular event while ensuring it can be conducted safely for attendees, residents, businesses, and emergency responders," the statement said.

Cars on 5th has become one of Southwest Florida's signature automotive events over the past two decades, drawing thousands of visitors annually while raising significant funds for local charitable organizations. The event has also generated economic activity for downtown Naples restaurants, retailers and hospitality businesses.

The City acknowledged that history in its statement, noting that it recognizes the event's longstanding tradition and positive impact on the community, participating charities, local businesses and automobile enthusiasts.

Despite the announcement that organizers intend to relocate the event, officials said discussions are not necessarily over.

According to the City, organizers may still submit a revised permit application no later than Aug. 5, 2026, allowing the proposal to be considered by the Naples City Council during its Aug. 19, 2026 meeting.

City leaders said they remain open to continued dialogue and would consider a revised proposal through the established public review process.

The statement indicates that, while organizers have announced plans to relocate the event, the City has not closed the possibility of Cars on 5th remaining in Naples if an agreement can be reached that satisfies permitting requirements and public safety standards.

The future location of the 2027 event has not yet been officially confirmed by organizers.
