Collier County Opens Major Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension to Ease Traffic Congestion

NAPLES, Fla. — One of the largest transportation infrastructure projects in Collier County's history is set to reach a major milestone this week as officials prepare to open the first phase of the Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension to motorists.

County officials announced that the new seven-mile roadway extension, stretching from Collier Boulevard (CR 951) to 16th Street NE, will officially open to traffic on Friday, June 12, at or after 10 a.m.

The completion of Phase One marks a significant investment in the county's rapidly growing transportation network and is expected to provide much-needed relief to several heavily traveled east-west corridors throughout the region.

According to Collier County Transportation Engineering officials, the new roadway was designed to reduce traffic congestion, improve connectivity for residents and businesses, and enhance emergency response capabilities by creating an additional route for first responders serving eastern Collier County.

As population growth continues to expand eastward, transportation planners have identified the Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension as a critical infrastructure project that will help accommodate future development while improving mobility for existing residents.

"This project represents a major step forward in addressing long-term transportation needs within Collier County," county officials said in announcing the roadway opening.

While the roadway will be fully accessible to drivers beginning June 12, contractors will continue working on final punch-list items over the coming weeks to complete remaining project details.

The county is also moving forward with plans for Phase Two of the extension. The next segment, currently in the final stages of design, will extend Vanderbilt Beach Road an additional two miles east from 16th Street NE to Everglades Boulevard. Construction on that phase could begin as early as next year.

County leaders are planning a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 1 to commemorate the opening of the new roadway. Additional details regarding the event are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
