In the vibrant heart of Naples, Florida, the legacy of the late artist Jerry Vallez is set to be celebrated through an exclusive exhibition curated by his daughter, Michelle Vallez. From May 1st to May 30th, 2024, the Norris Center will host a showcase titled "Seascapes and Naples Stories: The Art of Jerry Vallez," offering a rare glimpse into the captivating works of a legendary figure in the local art scene.
Jerry Vallez, a Naples resident for over four decades, left an indelible mark through his evocative paintings of Naples' scenes. His art captured the essence and charm of this coastal paradise, immortalizing iconic landmarks and the timeless beauty of its shores. Michelle Vallez, his eldest daughter and curator of the exhibition, has meticulously selected approximately two dozen pieces, spanning various mediums from oil to watercolor, alongside original drawings and limited-edition prints.
The significance of this exhibition lies not only in the artistic mastery displayed but also in the opportunity to reconnect with Naples' rich history. Through Jerry Vallez's art, viewers are transported to a bygone era, where the Naples Pier stood as a beacon of community, Palm Cottage whispered tales of yesteryears, and Crayton Cove exuded its unique allure. Each brushstroke tells a story, inviting the audience to rediscover cherished memories and forge new connections with Naples' heritage.
What makes this exhibition particularly poignant is Michelle Vallez's dedication to preserving her father's legacy and introducing his work to a new generation. As she meticulously prepares for the showcase, Michelle reflects on the countless anecdotes shared by acquaintances and admirers of her father's art. These narratives serve as a testament to Jerry Vallez's enduring impact on the Naples community and beyond.
Jerry Vallez's journey as an artist was as remarkable as his creations. From his humble beginnings showcasing his art in the chickee bar of the Cove Inn to owning galleries in Old Naples, his passion for painting was intertwined with his love for the sea. Having traversed the Atlantic multiple times during his youth and served in the U.S. Navy, Jerry's connection with the ocean permeated his work, infusing it with depth and vitality.
Beyond the realms of art, the Vallez family's commitment to philanthropy shines brightly. A portion of the proceeds from the exhibition will support Michelle Vallez's endeavors at the Discipleship College of the Church of God in Kenya, East Africa, where she imparts knowledge and fosters growth. Additionally, funds will be allocated to aid refugees, including Ukrainian refugees, underscoring the Vallez family's unwavering dedication to making a positive difference in the world.
Michelle Vallez's journey from Naples to Germany and her subsequent missions in Africa exemplify the spirit of resilience and compassion instilled by her father. As she continues to carry forward his legacy, she embodies the values of creativity, empathy, and global citizenship that defined Jerry Vallez's life and work.
For art enthusiasts and Naples residents alike, the exhibition at the Norris Center offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the captivating world of Jerry Vallez.
